Pierre Bartholomée was artistic director and resident conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège for twenty-two years. Founder, with Henri Pousseur, of the Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, he has worked with Olivier Messiaen, Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez and Alfred Schnittke. Bartholomée's compositions have been performed worldwide by artists such as Jordi Savall, Jose Van Dam and Ensemble Intercontemporain. This disc presents five recent works for solo instruments. Oraisons for cello and Face à Face for viola were written respectively for Ophélie Gaillard and Dominica Eyckmans. Le Livre d’orgue is dedicated to Belgian organist Bernard Foccroulle and played here by Jean-Philippe Merckaert.
