Violinist, pianist, conductor and composer, Ernest Bloch had to live between two worlds: his native Europe, torn by wars and anti-Semitism, and the American mirage offering successes as glorious as they were short-lived. This disc of works for cello and piano featuring cellist Michal Kanka and pianist Miguel Borges Coelho features the first recording since 1952 of the original version of Voice in the Wilderness, a little-known work written twenty years after the famous Schelomo, which exists in two versions: a dialogue between piano and cello, and setting with orchestral accompaniment.
