With this attractively priced 2-CD boxed set reissue, Dutton offers a second collection of music by English composer York Bowen. This set repackages the label's two superb recordings of Bowen's chamber music featuring the Endymion Ensemble. These outstanding performances were hailed by critics upon their initial release. The Horn Quintet and Horn Sonata played by Stephen Stirling are highlights, but the Sonatas for flute, oboe and clarinet are glorious as well, while the two trios (Rhapsody Trio and Trio in Three Movements) are consummately satisfying neo-romantic music.
