For over 20 years, the music of Josquin des Prés (c.1440-1521) has featured regularly in The Tallis Scholars' concert programs. Their sublime 1986 CD of his works remains the only recording of Early Music ever to have won the Gramophone Record of the Year Award. Here Peter Phillips leads The Tallis Scholars in this, their third release in a projected cycle of complete Josquin Masses, presenting the only two examples which are entirely based on canons. In both the Missa Sine nomine and the Missa Ad fugam, a single melody is stated in different voice-parts at different times so that it overlaps with itself. The result is another stunning recording that will please fans and casual listeners alike.
