Kodály, Kurtág and Veress are three of the five great names of modern Hungarian music, alongside Bartók and Ligeti. This excellent recording, originally released in 2001, provides a representative survey of their output. Featured works include sonatas for solo cello by Kurtág and Veress and works for cello and piano by Kodaly. All are played with style and virtuosity by Jean-Guihen Queyras, accompanied by Alexandre Tharaud.
