Albion presents a special collection of archive recordings featuring the words and music of Ralph Vaughan Williams. On Wenlock Edge (from Argo RG 20) features tenor Alexander Watson accompanied by the Sebastian String Quartet and pianist Gordon Watson. Merciless Beauty (from a broadcast on 28 May, 1960) also features Watson, accompanied by an unnamed string trio. The recording of Prelude on Three Welsh Hymn Tunes was taken from the work's first broadcast in March, 1955 and features the Salvation Army Staff Band led by Major Bernard Adams. Five Tudor Portraits (from Capitol Records CTL 7047) was recorded live at the First Pittsburgh International Music Festival in 1952. It features William Steinberg leading the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The set includes a bonus disc of the great composer giving a talk on J.S. Bach entitled The Great Bourgeois taken from a broadcast of July 28, 1950.
